Tehran: Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia says the Iranian Armed Forces would not make the slightest compromise over the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the only way to reopen the strategic waterway is for the United States to respect the rights of the Iranian nation and comply with the terms of the Iran-US memorandum ending the war.
Speaking at a public gathering in a southern neighborhood in Tehran on Tuesday, Akraminia extended condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and senior military commanders, praising the Iranian people’s steadfast support for the Armed Forces during the past four months.
He said the massive turnout at the funeral of the martyred Leader demonstrated the nation’s commitment to the path of the Leaders of the Islamic Revolution and thwarted the enemy’s efforts to undermine the Islamic Republic through the assassination of its leaders.
The spokesman said the people’s presence had strengthened national unity and reinforced the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic, adding that Iran had become a symbol of resistance and freedom-seeking for people around the world.
Referring to calls for retaliation against those responsible for the assassinations, Akraminia said the Armed Forces considered it their duty to avenge the blood of the martyrs, particularly the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
He said the United States has been violating the war-ending memorandum of understanding with Iran by seeking to establish a new shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz despite having accepted Iran’s arrangements for navigation through the waterway.
“The Strait of Hormuz will never be reopened through war, aggression, or acts of hostility by the United States,” he said. “The only path to reopening the Strait is respect for the rights of the Iranian nation and full compliance by the United States with the provisions of the memorandum ending the war.”
Akraminia reaffirmed that the Iranian Armed Forces would continue defending the country’s rights in the Strait of Hormuz “to the last breath” and would not retreat by even the slightest amount.
