Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet was targeted in a missile and drone operation carried out by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
According to a statement released by the Sepah News website early Wednesday, the action was conducted in response to a series of US military attacks.
The IRGC declared that late Tuesday night, a US aircraft struck an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to its engine room.
In retaliation, the IRGC said its naval forces launched missiles at a vessel identified as MSC Panaya, which it described as being affiliated with US and Israeli interests.
The statement further said that US forces later targeted an IRGC communications tower in the southern part of Qeshm Island. In response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes against a US air and helicopter base located in a regional country, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
The IRGC warned that any future actions disrupting security in the Strait of Hormuz would result in a severe response.
