The uncalculated and insulting statements used by US President Donald Trump in his reference to other nations in Africa and elsewhere are going to create divisions and enmity, said Iran Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday.
Such remarks will not help promotion of friendship and sustainable cooperation among nations, rather they widen rifts and increase enmities, Larijani said, addressing the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) General Committee held in the Iranian capital.
'The language adopted by Trump was too humiliating and insulting to demonstrate that we are in an era where some kind of modern barbarity is encouraged,' he said, referring to Trump's recent shithole remarks.
The Iranian Parliament speaker said such a trend has also affected the political literature.
'Instead of respecting nations, they adopt a contemptible and humiliating literature in their references,' Larijani said.
He said that Iran alongside other Islamic nations remain to denounce such approaches.
'No president should try to humiliate other countries, either African or non-African,' he stressed.
In the meantime, Iran's Majlis speaker called on the Islamic nations not to forget about the issue of Palestine which remains to be the most important issue in the World of Islam.
'This gathering is an opportunity for us to defend the Palestinian people,' Larijani said, referring to the PUIC General Committee session.
He also urged the Islamic countries to try to use all their capacities to foster cooperation among themselves in all areas, including the economic fields.
Larijani expressed hope for the PUIC conference to serve as a roadmap for future orientation of the Islamic nations.
