A fresh video allegedly showing a minor girl being harassed and assaulted at the Mandar Parvat tourist site in Banka surfaced online on Friday, making it the third such incident involving a minor reported in Bihar within a week.
The video purportedly shows a group of boys allegedly harassing and assaulting the girl at the tourist site. The incident has triggered a political response, with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav attacking the Bihar government over the state’s law-and-order situation.
Tejashwi Yadav Questions Action Against Accused
Sharing the video, Yadav said that the “law and order in Bihar is on its deathbed”.
He questioned the status of the earlier cases in Jamui and Samastipur and asked when the accused in the Banka case would be arrested.
Yadav also questioned what action had been taken against the remaining accused in the Jamui case and whether the accused in the Samastipur case had been punished.
He further alleged that the state government’s approach to justice and punishment was influenced by the caste identities of accused persons.
Third Such Incident Reported In A Week
The Banka incident comes amid reports of other cases involving alleged harassment of minor girls in Bihar.
In Darbhanga, a girl was allegedly molested in Keeratpur village on Monday after two motorcycle-borne men allegedly attempted to snatch her dupatta while she was travelling to school.
According to the police statement cited in the source material, the girl raised an alarm and passersby attempted to catch the accused, but they fled.
Police subsequently traced both accused within five hours. A case was registered under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The 19-year-old accused was sent to jail after being produced before a court, while the minor accused was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Jamui Girl Allegedly Harassed On Road
In Jamui, a teenage girl and a boy, who were reportedly studying at the same coaching centre, were allegedly stopped and harassed by a group on a road on September 19.
Videos purportedly showing the girl being harassed later circulated on social media.
According to the source material, Bihar Police said two key accused were arrested after an encounter on Tuesday in which both sustained injuries.
The number of arrests in the Jamui case has since risen to five, including three minors.
Banka Case Raises Fresh Questions
The emergence of the alleged Banka video has added to the series of incidents being reported from the state.
The incident has also triggered fresh criticism of the Bihar government over law and order, with Tejashwi Yadav demanding that those responsible for the alleged assault be identified and arrested.
