US Approves $2.8 Billion Arms Deal for Israel, Including 40,000 Bombs

The Washington Post has reported that the United States is moving toward approving a new arms deal for Israel worth $2.8 billion, which includes 40,000 one-ton bombs.
The newspaper detailed that this package, financed by American taxpayers, encompasses some of the most lethal munitions in the Western arsenal. It reportedly includes 20,000 MK-84 bombs, 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, and 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator bunker-buster warheads.
In this regard, an American official told The New York Times that the administration of President Donald Trump has approved this transaction.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State avoided commenting on the matter, stating that the department does not comment on proposed arms deals before official notification to Congress and does not deny or confirm them.
This development comes at a time when the U.S. Department of Defense has acknowledged shortages in munitions and weapons following the war against Iran. Washington has spent $22.3 billion on munitions purchases between February 28 and June 30.
Previously, the administration of President Donald Trump lifted a suspension on a shipment of two-thousand-pound bombs imposed by the previous administration. Upon taking office in early 2025, Trump approved their delivery to Israel.
