U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly granted final approval to a major, long-term nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, marking a notable departure from his previous stance. The 30-year deal, projected to involve billions of dollars for American contracting firms, would effectively grant Riyadh the capability for uranium enrichment.
The agreement, which has drawn scrutiny from strategic experts, reportedly designates U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman to finalize the document. Critics argue that while Washington claims the accord focuses on civilian nuclear development, it could serve as a cover for advancing sensitive technologies and potentially contribute to nuclear proliferation in West Asia, while also being perceived as a move to counter Iran’s defensive capabilities.
