Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that its naval and aerospace forces carried out a joint missile and drone operation in the early hours of Sunday, describing the action as a response to recent US military aggression.
According to a statement released by the IRGC’s Public Relations Office on Sunday, the operation took place between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. local time.
The statement added that ballistic missiles and drones targeted eight military infrastructure sites associated with the United States, including facilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The IRGC said the strikes were intended to retaliate against recent US attacks.
The statement also said that US forces had launched attacks on five Iranian coastal positions earlier that same day following an incident involving the IRGC Navy.
The IRGC further stated that, under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU), Iran is responsible for regulating transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
It warned that vessels found violating these arrangements would face stronger enforcement measures in the future.
In addition, the statement warned that any future military action against Iran, regardless of its scale or justification, would receive a crushing response. It also asserted that any violation of the ceasefire would breach the first clause of the document and could result in the suspension of all related processes.
