Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the latest hike in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that fuel rates were increased immediately after the elections concluded.
Gandhi further claimed that he had already warned about an “economic storm" approaching and said fuel prices would continue to rise in the coming days.
In a post on X, the Congress leader referred to the Prime Minister as “Inflation Man Modi" and claimed that he had been warning for months about an “economic storm" approaching.
“I’ve been warning for months about an economic storm coming. But Modi ji, as always, was busy with elections back then — and the moment elections ended, petrol-diesel was hiked by ₹8," Gandhi wrote.
He further claimed that fuel prices would continue to rise in the coming days and accused the government of focusing only on elections while ordinary citizens suffer from inflation.
“Inflation Man Modi’s only job is this — promises during elections, and the rest of the time, attacks on the public’s pocket," he added.
Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again Today
Petrol and diesel prices were increased again on Monday, marking the fourth hike in the last 10 days amid continued volatility in global crude oil markets due to the West Asia conflict.
State run oil marketing companies revised fuel prices across the country, with petrol and diesel rates rising by a little over Rs 2 per litre in several states. The latest increase comes as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact global oil supplies.
India, the world’s third largest crude oil importer, relies heavily on crude shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, making domestic fuel prices sensitive to disruptions in the region.
