Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of Trinamul Congress criticised the Union home minister, Amit Shah, for not tendering an apology for the deletion of more than 90 lakh names from the electoral rolls.
He was commenting on the election manifesto released by Mr Shah at a Press conference this afternoon.
“The names of the people have been deleted without assigning any cause and the names of 63 per cent Hindu voters got deleted,” he said, adding, “The BJP is against the Bengalis. Many migrant workers speaking Bengali were assaulted and abused in BJP-ruled states. Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said anyone speaking in Bengali in his state will be put behind the bars. The BJP is trying to imbibe the same culture in Bengal and Mr Shah today said that if voted to power, Bengal will be controlled from Delhi and Gujarat. He said Bengal is being controlled from Bangladesh. He should explain why Sheikh Hasina is staying in Delhi, is she an infiltrator or a refugee?” he asked.
Criticising Mr Shah’s statement that strong steps should be taken to stop infiltration in Bengal Mr Banerjee said: “Mr Shah has been playing the same old record for the past 10 years. He should explain how the terrorists could enter Pahalgam and kill 27 innocent people or how the terrorists could blast bombs killing 10 people in Delhi. He should oil his own machine first,” he remarked.
Mr Banerjee said: “The BJP will publish a white paper on deteriorating law and order situation in Bengal instead they should publish a white paper on Bengal’s financial deprivation. I wrote a letter on 14 March, 2024, urging the Centre to publish a white paper on the amount it had given to Bengal. They have not answered my letter.”
He said the BJP has given shelter to the most corrupt like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Narayan Rane, Pema Khandu and Suvendu Adhikari. “They joined the BJP and got a clean chit from them. Mr Shah is received by Joydeb Khan and Pralhad Joshi, two notorious coal mafia and now he is talking about syndicate free Bengal,” he said.
He said, “Mr Shah speaks volume of lies on one crore jobs each year for the unemployed youths in the next five years. Also, financial assistance worth Rs 3,000 will be paid to women per month. The Prime Minister before the Delhi Assembly election had announced that women in Delhi will get Rs 2,500 from 8 March, which is International Women Day. This is a big lie,” he said, adding, “I will tender an apology if Mr Shah starts giving financial assistance worth Rs 3,000 to the youths and women.”
Mr Banerjee said: “Before every election, the BJP makes false promises and the leaders never show up after the results are out.”
