Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry in a statement condemned the illegal, unjustified, and hypocritical decision of the European Union foreign ministers to level baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran and label the proud Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity.
The Foreign Ministry described the move as an action against the entire Iranian nation and condemned it in the strongest possible terms.
The statement reads that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), as an integral part of the official Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, plays an irreplaceable and honorable role under the country’s Constitution in preserving Iran's national sovereignty and security, safeguarding regional stability, and combating terrorism—including the very ISIS terrorism that was a byproduct of the coalitional conspiracies of certain European countries and the United States.
The statement further adds that pplying a terrorist label to a formal state institution is a dangerous precedent, a flagrant violation of the principle of the rule of law in international relations, and an open disregard for the fundamental principles of international law, including the principle of respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this provocative, utterly irresponsible, and offensive measure—undoubtedly designed and implemented to please a genocidal, occupying regime and its warmongering supporters in the US—deals another fatal blow to the status and credibility of the European Union as a bloc that could have played a constructive role in international developments. It further pushes the world toward lawlessness and the 'law of the jungle'.
The statement continues that the term 'terrorism' in its precise sense is a description that should be applied to the performance of the military forces of EU member states in the illegal or semi-legal missions of Western coalitions, including NATO over recent decades—such as in Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan—and the heinous crimes committed by them against millions of innocent people in these regions.
It further notes: "The disgusting claim by European parties regarding their sympathy for the human rights of Iranians is a monumental lie and a deceptive assertion. European parties must be held accountable for their crimes involving the gross violation of the fundamental human rights of Iranians—whether through aiding Saddam Hussein's regime in the imposed war against Iran in the 1980s or through the imposition of anti-human sanctions and the implementation of cruel U.S. sanctions over the past two decades."
The Ministry stressed: "Their claims about 'preventing impunity' are a bitter irony; European parties have not only made no effort to prevent the 'impunity' of the Israeli regime for the genocide of Palestinians but have consistently stood by the occupying and genocidal side and acted as accomplices during the Zionist regime's military aggression against Iran."
The statement concludes: "It is evident that the responsibility for the political, legal, and security consequences arising from such an irrational decision will rest with European policymakers, especially its designers and sponsors. While emphasizing its determination to defend national sovereignty and security against any foreign interference or terrorist malice, the Islamic Republic of Iran will take all necessary measures to protect the interests and legitimate rights of the Iranian nation against this illegal and anti-Iranian move by the European Union."
