Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav appealed to voters from the PDA community (Backward Classes, Dalits, and Minorities) to thwart the conspiracy to remove their names from the voter list at all costs.
He said despite all efforts, the names of crores of voters from the PDA community have already been removed from the voter list, which is a direct attack on democracy and civil rights.
In a post on his social media account on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav called upon “PDA guardians” to conduct thorough checks at every booth, urging everyone to unite with the resolve that “not a single vote should be cut, not a single vote should be reduced”.
He said having one’s name on the voter list is an identifier of citizenship. If someone’s name is removed from the voter list, it could jeopardize their ration card, government schemes, caste certificate, reservation benefits, jobs, bank accounts, insurance, PAN card, Ayushman card, electricity and water connections, and even their land and property in the future.
The SP president expressed apprehension that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government could go to any lengths for electoral gain. He said that a government that can orchestrate unopposed elections can also conspire to remove votes. Their objective is to win elections, come to power, and then seize control of water, forests, and land through corruption.
Akhilesh Yadav said that the PDA community must understand that even with the right to vote, they are still facing oppression. If this right is taken away, the situation will become even more dire. He alleged that dominant forces want to weaken the Constitution, while the Constitution is the shield for the poor, oppressed, and deprived sections of society.
He appealed to every member of the PDA community to remain vigilant, ensure their vote is registered, and also raise awareness among others. He said that protecting one’s vote means protecting the Constitution, reservation, jobs, and the future. The SP president appealed to the people to unite against the BJP and vote to form “their own PDA government.”
