Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday strongly criticized Modi government’s economic disparities, alleging that the government has distributed “freebies” worth Rs 12 lakh crore to billionaire friends through loan write-offs over the past nine years.
He also claimed that economic inequality in India is at its peak in 100 years, and the Modi government is squandering lakhs of crores from public sector banks on its friends.
“Economic inequality in the country is at its peak in 100 years, yet the Modi government is squandering lakhs of crores from Public Sector banks on its friends. Robbing the poor to lavish on the rich is the core mantra of the Modi government’s economic policy,” Kharge said in a post on handle X.
The Modi government’s economic policies, also known as “Modinomics”, focus on privatization and liberalization of the economy based on a neoliberal framework.
Alleging that the Modi government’s economic policy mantra is “robbing the poor to lavish on the rich”, Kharge said the recent estimates suggest that inequality in India is at an all-time high, with growth being unequal.
However the government has been highlighting achievements like increased foreign direct investment, improved ease of doing business, and reduced fiscal deficit.
