The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has voiced surprise at the “silence” of Arab and Islamic countries amid Israel's ongoing genocidal campaign and deliberate starvation of civilians across the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Hamas said the 'deafening silence' of the Muslim rulers emboldens "war criminal" Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to persist in his policies of "starvation and genocide."
"We are appalled by the official Arab and Islamic silence in the face of the systematic genocide and criminal starvation policies inflicted upon our people in Gaza."
Hamas added that official responses and positions from Arab and Islamic states fall far short of the scale of the catastrophe confronting more than 2.25 million people in Gaza.
“We affirm that the official reactions do not match the magnitude of the disaster facing two and a quarter million human beings,” the resistance movement stated.
The Palestinian group reiterated its rejection of all forms of normalization with the occupying Israeli regime.
"We demand that Arab and Islamic nations sever all forms of ties with the fascist occupation entity, close its embassies, and expel Zionist ambassadors.
Hamas also strongly censured the US-led push for the normalization of Arab-Israeli relations.
“We demand abolishing all normalization agreements, isolating and ostracizing this criminal entity, and forcing it to halt its crimes against our oppressed Palestinian people."
The resistance movement also said that the time had come to break the chains, open the crossings, and deliver relief to the starving people in the blockaded territory.
"Our people are starving and dying of hunger while thousands of aid trucks are piling up on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing."
The statement comes as Gaza's population continues to suffer from a severe shortage of food and essential supplies due to Israel’s total aid blockade and relentless aggression.
The United Nations has issued a stark warning over the growing food crisis in Gaza, saying starvation is now a “horrific reality” for children and families trapped under Israeli siege.
“People in Gaza are starving to death,” the UN said in a social media post on Tuesday.
It noted that its children’s agency, UNICEF, has warned that deadly malnutrition among children is reaching “catastrophic levels”.
With aid scarcity, many in Gaza are risking their lives daily to access limited food supplies at distribution points run by the controversial US- and Israeli-backed GHF, where more than 1,000 people have been killed since late May.
Since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza in October 2023, the territory's Health Ministry has reported numerous cases of children dying from starvation and dehydration.
By blocking the entry of aid into Gaza, Israel has imposed sweeping restrictions on food, medicine, fuel, and humanitarian relief. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians now face the threat of death amid widespread starvation and the total collapse of healthcare services.
The genocidal war has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left over 142,000 others injured.
