Operation Sindhu: 290 Indian students from Iran reach Delhi

India successfully evacuated 290 students from Iran, mostly hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, as part of Operation Sindhu on Friday. Two more flights carrying Indians are expected to reach India later today.
According to the external affairs ministry, the flight carrying 290 Indian students left from Mashhad, Iran, and landed at the Delhi Airport late Friday. As per reports, close to 1,000 nationals have evacuated amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. On Thursday, 110 Indian students were evacuated via Armenia and Doha before reaching Delhi.
As a special gesture, Iran lifted airspace restrictions for the three charter flights India operated to evacuate about 1,000 Indian nationals. The Indian nationals, mostly Indians, were evacuated from Tehran and moved to the Iranian city of Mashad as part of the rescue efforts.
According to Mohammad Javad Hosseini, the deputy chief of mission at the Iranian embassy in India, about 10,000 Indians are living in Iran and arrangements are being made for those wishing to return.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said in a statement: "Heartfelt thanks to the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs, and all concerned authorities for their timely intervention and support. A great relief for families who had been anxiously awaiting their return."
India launched Operation Sindhu on Wednesday to bring back its nationals from Iran and Israel following the recent conflict between the nations.
