Iraqi president commends General Soleimani’s role in fight against Daesh

Tehran: Iraq’s president has praised the significant role of the late Iranian commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group.
Speaking at a ceremony in Baghdad marking the sixth anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces, President Abdul Latif Rashid commended the martyred commanders for their role in defeating terrorism in the region. He stated they worked steadfastly to enhance security, stability, and democracy in the region.
The Iraqi president emphasized the heroic role of General Soleimani and Abu Muhandis, stressing the national and moral responsibility never to forget these great sacrifices and to preserve their memory for future generations.
The official memorial ceremony was attended by the heads of Iraq’s three government branches and other senior officials.
General Soleimani, Abu Muhandis, and eight others were killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on January 3, 2020.
