Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday urged the Election Commission to put on hold the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls till the assembly elections in Bihar.
The leader of the opposition in the state assembly made the demand at a press conference here in the presence of the INDIA bloc partners.
"This exercise should be put on hold till elections. The EC will do well to have a word with its booth-level officers who are facing the ire of voters while collecting data," claimed Yadav, the former deputy CM.
He said the people were greatly inconvenienced by the "exclusion" of Aadhaar card and MNREGA job card, which are available with most of them, from the list of acceptable proof of identity.
"It is perplexing that Aadhar cards, which are made after biometric verification, and to which the EC intends to link respective voter ID cards, are not being accepted," he said.
Yadav also asked the EC to release assembly constituency-wise details of voters covered under the exercise on a daily basis.
He also demanded that details be published of the "volunteers" who, as per an EC notification, were assisting the BLOs.
"What is the criterion behind accepting a person as a volunteer should also be disclosed," he said.
"We have been flagging our concerns before the EC. We have also moved the Supreme Court for timely intervention," he added.
