Jammu and Kashmir: A security official told that the gunbattle is underway in Zainapora area of Shopian district.
Two militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces which broke out early Tuesday morning in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Army officials have confirmed the killing of two militants. “The operation is under progress,” said an official.
This is the second encounter is the last 24 hours in the valley. Earlier in the morning, Jammu and Kashmir police had said that there was an exchange of fire between security forces and militants at Heff Shirmal area in district Shopian and the area is cordoned off.
Meanwhile, clashes broke out between the youth and security forces after the locals allegedly pelted stones and tried to march towards the encounter site. Few photojournalists who were covering the protests in Shopian have suffered pellet injuries.
“We repeatedly showed them the cameras, but security personnel still fired the pellets towards a group of photographers,” says Waseem Andrabi, a photojournalist working with the Hindustan Times, who also received pellet injuries on his neck and head.
On Monday, three militants were killed in an encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Senior Jammu and Kashmir officials said that Hapatnaar area was cordoned off and a search operation was initiated after news about the presence of militants in the area.
The search operation turned violent when militants opened fire on the security forces, the official said, adding that identity and affiliation of them were still unknown.
