Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, announced his resignation from the post, on Wednesday, in protest against the ceasefire agreement of the Israeli Cabinet with the Palestinian factions in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Sources reported that Lieberman called for early elections.
Lieberman described the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with the Hamas movement as "a capitulation to terror."
In a reaction on Wednesday, Hamas called Lieberman's resignation a "political victory for Gaza".
Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri said it marked "recognition of defeat and failure to confront the Palestinian resistance", adding that "Gaza's steadfastness sent a political shockwave" through Israel.
