New Delhi, Nov 11: Two days after former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan contended that the introduction of demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were the two major events that held back India’s economic growth last year, the Congress on Sunday said he has held a ‘mirror of truth’ to the Modi Government.
In a tweet, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, ‘Noted economist and former RBI Governor holds ‘mirror of truth’ to Modi Government on ‘Modi Made’ #DemonetisationDisaster and ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ GST for stifling India’s economic growth..Oops! Will be branded ‘anti-national’ by today evening in a ‘blog’ by ….!’
Speaking at the University of California in Berkley on Friday, Mr Rajan contended that the introduction of demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were the two major events that held back India’s economic growth last year.
He maintained that the seven per cent growth rate is not enough to meet the country’s needs.
‘The two successive shocks of demonetisation and the GST had a serious impact on growth in India. Growth has fallen off interestingly at a time when growth in the global economy has been peaking up,’ Mr Rajan said while delivering the second Bhattacharya Lectureship on the Future of India.
