The National Directorate of Security of Afghanistan announced that a group of 26 Daesh (ISIS) terrorists preparing to attack Muharram mourning processions have been arrested in Kabul.
The terrorists confessed in initial interrogations that they were arranging attacks against Ashura rituals (the ceremony to commemorate Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of Shia Muslims), according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Afghan national security body.
The Muharram mourning processions in Afghanistan have been assaulted by the terrorists in recent years, resulting in heavy losses.
This year’s procession will be more secure due to stronger security measures and participation of local people in guaranteeing safety of mourners.
