Syria’s Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said Tuesday the latest Israeli aggression on Syria comes as a completion to its aggressive policies and an attempt to provide moral support to terrorist groups which suffered defeats by Syrian Arab Army.
“Syria calls on UN Security Council to take firm and immediate measures to hold Israel accountable for its terrorism and crimes in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the provisions of international law,” al-Jaafari said on a UNSC session on the situation in Syria, SANA reported from New York.
“We are surprised that UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock did not address the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria,” al-Jaafari added.
Al-Jaafari noted that Syria is continuing to work towards achieving a political solution to the crisis through intra-Syrian dialogue led by Syria without external interference with affirmation that the fight against terrorism should be a priority in all the stages and the developments of the political process.
“Syria welcomes any initiative that spares the bloodshed of the Syrians and contributes to the restoration of security to any spot hit by terrorism and that Syria will continue its war against terrorism until the liberation of the last inch of its territory, whether by military operations or reconciliations,” he stated.
