Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of indulging in divisive and hatred politics, the Congress party on Saturday said he has become 'blind like Dhritarashtra (in Mahabharata)' to seek revenge from Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s speech in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on Saturday, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a tweet that Mr Modi has become 'scared of his failures'.
While laying the foundation stone for Puravanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh, Mr Modi said he read newspaper reports quoting Mr Gandhi that 'the Congress is a party of Muslims'.
Referring to the Triple Talaq bill, the Prime Minister accused that the Congress is a party of Muslim men and added that when the Centre tried to make the lives of women easy, the opposition grouped together to put their lives, especially that of Muslim women, in danger.
However, rejecting the Prime Minister’s claim, Mr Surjewala said, “He is lying about Mr Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh”.
“The followers of Godse cannot defeat the ideologies of Gandhiji”, added the Congress spokesperson.
He also said Mr Modi should talk about the promises he made that they will bring back Rs 80 lakh crores of black money from abroad and distribute Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s account.
“Mr Modi should tell where are the two crore jobs created every year. He should tell when farmers will get justice. When will atrocities on Dalits stop. When will the pries of diesel and petrol be reduced,” asked Mr Surjewala.
Earier in the day, another Congress spokesperson Pramod Tiwari alleged that Mr Modi is claiming ownership of previous government’s works and distorting facts.
“The land acquisition for the Purvanchal Expressway project was done much before the BJP government came to power in UP. But the Prime Minister is taking undue credit”, alleged Mr Tiwari.
Referring to the Triple Talaq issue, Mr Tiwai said the Congress is always by the side of people irrespective of their caste and religion and added that the party does not play politics of Kabaristan and Samshan.
He also questioned Prime Minister’s silence on Unnao rape case and said the accused MLA is still in BJP.
In a tweet, the Congress mocked Prime Minister and said “PM Modi does it again” while sharing news reports on former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s claim that under his rule the foundation stone for the Purvanchal Expressway was laid.
“Modiji's fondness for the camera and his old habit of claiming ownership of initiatives of the previous Governments is a well known fact. It would be better use of his time and the tax payers' money to play the role of Prime Minister”, the Congress tweeted.
