Actor Kangana Ranaut on Friday was gheraoed by the farmers near Bunga Sahib in Kiratpur Sahib town of Punjab’s Ropar district.
The farmers claimed to have stopped her car and gherao her for around two hours on Chandigarh – Kulu Manali National Highway while she was on returning from Himachal and claimed her flight was cancelled.
The farmers claimed they had allowed Kangana to go after she tendered apology to the farmers who were annoyed over her regular comments against the protesters and the central government's decision to repeal three farm laws.
The farmers and police claimed that no damage was done to her car.
The farmers said that the number plate of a car of belonging to a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from UP was taken off iin protest by the farmers.
Veer Singh, leader of Kirti Kisan Morcha Ropar, said, “We gheraoed the actor Kangana at around 2.15pm on Friday and let her go at around 4pm only after she apologised to farmers for her comments against the farmers and repeal of farm laws. On her request a group of female farmers reached near her car for talks when Kangana apologised."
He said, "None of the farmers tried to damage her car as it was a peaceful protest. Our spirit does not allow even to insult or hurt dignity of a woman. A BJP leader from UP, who was also passing on the same road and ahead of Kangana’s car, was also gheraoed by the farmers and the number plate of his car was taken off after which he was allowed to go.”
Kangana had also shared her story on her Instagram alleging that a mob of anti-social elements who are claiming themselves to be farmers gheraoed and hurled abuses on her while she was returning after her flight was cancelled.
While sitting in the car, she uploaded her story on instagram and claimed that the situation would have been different in case there was no security with her.
She said despite the presence of police, she was not allowed to move.
The station house officer of Kiratpur Sahib, inspector Sumit Mor, said, “Kangana’s car was blocked by the farmers in protest for around one hour. Now she has been allowed to go.”
SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said, "No damage was done to Kangana's car. A tight police security chain was made around her car. On her request, two female farmers who were part of protest were allowed to meet Kangana who told them that she was like their daughter. At this, the farmers cleared the blockade thus allowing Kangana to go."
