Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of spreading hatred among people and dividing them following the Britishers 'divide and rule' policy.
During elections, he said, the BJP leaders indulge in politics of jealousy, spread hatred and assume power.
Addressing the party workers, before returning to Lucknow from his ancestral village Saifai on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday, Mr Yadav said unfortunately the people get carried by the outward appearance and believe those who lie, wear good clothes.
The Samajwadi Party was in dire need of discipline and training today, the former chief minister said. It has been noticed that the party workers pose hurdles if another member wishes to meet senior leaders. This practice should be done away with and everybody should get a chance a chance meet their superiors.
Workers need to gear up, improve themselves and strengthen the party base in villages and rural areas to defeat the opposition parties. One should remember that the image of the booth in-charge or worker in a particular region matters a lot as it affects the party's base, he added.
Earlier, Mr Yadav said, jobs were easily available but now owing to reservations, the youth ha to work really hard.
Slamming the BJP government, he said that the politics of lies and deceit is at its zenith today and its well known how the people who speak against the government are treated.
